RootBox Modular Units

The RootBox is essential for urban tree-planting because it provides a controlled environment that supports healthy root development and growth while preventing damage to surrounding infrastructure, sidewalks and utilities.

The RootBox systems, manufactured by HTW – TreeRoot Systems are durable, modular, soil-cell systems that can be easily assembled at any desired site. The components can be pieced together in a structural matrix, forming a spacious (approx. 95%) sub-pavement unobstructed skeleton. The absence of horizontal bars enables homogeneous soil-filling, creating ideal conditions for sustainable root development and stormwater management, harmoniously integrating with the city’s additional underground utilities.

Every RootBox unit consists of frames, supporting legs, geotextile fabric and connectors, to ensure optimal drainage.

Tree Aeration

Tree aeration is crucial because it ensures adequate oxygen supply to the tree roots, promoting healthy growth and preventing soil compaction.

TreeTube™ offers a unique solution: the perforated tube’s structure is engineered to provide improved subsurface soil aeration and enable maximal root ventilation. To ensure long-term durability, the system is coated with geotextile.

Sub-Surface Irrigation

Directing adequate moisture to tree roots while avoiding overwatering, and ensuring that the system does not interfere with adjacent underground utilities can pose a challenge. Alternatively, placing an irrigation system above-ground can easily result in damages to the watering system.

TreeTube™ offers a unique below-surface irrigation solution: a system that enables an adjustable, even water-flow distribution through the insertion of a customizable drip-irrigation pipe into the tube system. The sub-surface positioning protects the mechanism from vandalism.

The product’s diameter can be adjusted to accommodate the tree pit dimensions, and is suitable for 16-20mm drip irrigation pipes.
